It’s just the start of the April of 2015 and in this short span of three months, Google has already processed over 100 million copyright takedown requests to delete pirate links (illegal content). Just a few days ago, Google received its 100 millionth request takedown request of the year 2015. TF writes that this counter of the pirate links is right now at 103,218, 572 and last year it took a bit more than a month more to kiss the same number.
The next fact may surprise you a bit: in year 2011, the search engine giant received just a few hundred takedown notices per day. This number has increased exponentially and now Google is receiving about one million takedown requests per day.
If the number continues to grow at this pace, we will see this reported pirate links’ number touching half a billion mark.
These takedown notices deal directly with the search results. However in recent times, website owners have reported that Google happens to commit mistakes due to the massive amount of requests. In past, Google has banned website homepages from search results even though they didn’t have any copyright infringing material.
In response to these problems, Google has implemented changes to the search algorithm that aims at the lower-ranking websites that often violate the copyright laws.
